The Llangollen Railway

The station at Llangollen sits alongside the fourteenth century Dee Bridge (built in 1345) in the heart of the Welsh town of Llangollen. It is the only standard gauge heritage railway in North Wales (and so the only standard gauge railway listed on this website).

The ten-miles of track winds its way through the beautiful Dee Valley to the pretty town of Corwen. The whole length of the this valley is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the track is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Before the Beeching cuts of the mid-1960s, this line ran ran through the town on it’s way from Ruabon to the coast at Barmouth.
